This is a themed cross-curricular enrichment programme that looks at the ways in which we imagine, remember, and use the past in the everyday culture of our own present time. It will include discussion of TV drama, films and documentaries that engage with the past and will include visits to museums and galleries as well as a ghost walk around Manchester. It will consider our different feelings about the past: how we see it as scary, interesting, something to be proud of and something to be ashamed of according to context and situation. It will examine how the past helps to shape our identities and our politics: our understanding of who we are. It will also give you a chance to learn about careers and opportunities within the heritage and creative sectors. All students are welcome but the programme particularly complements English, History, Politics, Geography, Psychology, Sociology and Criminology. The programme will start in November and full details will follow.
